Tired of restarting it
Published on June 4, 2007 By Myrddin In ObjectDock
I recently added ObjectDock Plus to my purchases from StarDock/WinCustomize.

I didn't notice this behaviour while using the free version but, after going to ObjDock Plus, I'd come out of some app which'd been in fullscreen mode.. usually Mozilla-SeaMonkey or OpenOfficeOrg to find that ObjectDock had closed without any error, notification or other hint that something was goin' on.

I've been using the version which was current on 1-June-07. Now, I've just abandoned it for now because I got tired of restarting it.

Also, its a bit of a memory hog. I tried just using a basic tabbed dock without the special effects and it still chowed down on the available RAM.

I sure hope both of these concerns are being addressed.. or been noted for later. I'll just hang tight and try the next update when its out. Have to go back and reclaim some of the shortcuts and my floating toolbar since I'd dispensed with 'em in favour of ODockPlus.

I don't know about your shutting down problem, but many memory issues are due to docklets performing badly.
On the dock settings panel, choose Troublehooting Options and disable docklets.  See if that helps.
If so, add them back and remove each one to find which is causing the problem.

i have OD free and it randomly closes as well - nothing to do with a specific app, even when my laptop was just sitting there with nothing open it just closed

memory-wise i find it taking up very little memory (about 3MB for me which is amazing)

anyway, is there any reason for this random closing? something i can change? (I have XP home)

thanks

Make sure that you are up to date on your version. (1.9)

You can try this:

Go to start > run and then copy this into the command line:

%userprofile%\local settings\application data\stardock

It will open a file folder. Delete the ObjectDock one. Be sure to save before doing all of this.

This should clear your issue. If not please start a ticket at support at support@stardock.com

Thanks for the info Zubazz.!

I'd gotten rid of those referring to ie or oe and created shortcuts to IrfanView using some png's I had come across. Probably the worst memory offenders were the analog clock and the weather since they were the 'live' ones. However, they came with the installation set when ObjDockPlus was installed.. Just have to use widgets for the live things and stick to shortcuts on the Dock I'm guessing.

Thanks for the tip Seabass6.7.!

I'll try it and see how it behaves afterward.

I too, am using xp home like jheredia's msg above.

ps .. Its a balancing act .. nice.n.nifty desktop vs free-ram for apps.
