rebuild list -aint wurkin'
Published on December 24, 2005 By Myrddin In Object Desktop
I installed via SDCentral the latest release.. now I have a very short list of skins, however they are present on the drive. My clue was when coming back from the reboot just after installing it my previously selected theme didn't open and titlebars were blank rectangles -- Since the auto-archive option has never worked on my install I can't go back. How can I actually get it to re-read my installed themes/skins so I can get back about my business again.? ..h.e.l.p.!
Thanks, Myrddin

Have you tried hitting the Rebuild List button in the main Skins area of the WB interface window? I don't know if it will help, but it's a start at least.

*smile* .. repeatedly.. after even restarting it, restarting the computer, rebuild list click click click, unload windowblinds, reload windowblinds. *smile* to no avail so far.

You could try copying all skin folders from the WindowBlinds sub-directory to a temporary folder > unload WindowBlinds > restore the default XP theme > uninstall WB > reboot > reinstall WB > copy the skin folders back to the WindowBlinds sub-directory > start WB config and rebuild the list.

Note - before that adventure; you could try moving all skin folders that are not showing in WB config to a temp folder > reboot > start WB config and build list > move all folders back to sub-directory > start WB config > rebuild list.

I have found that I can get them back one.by.one using the Theme manager and browsing for uis files. So far I've only gotten the one back I'd been using. While it made it re-accessible, it didn't apply it correctly. I ended up logging out and back into my user account in xp to get it loaded properly.

That is going to be a lot of work though. I'm hoping there is another way to get wb to rebuild the list on its own. I'm not looking forward to having to re-load every one of my themes/skins whatever.

Hope this info helps anyone else who may encounter the same trouble.

Hi Corky.
Thanks for the idea. If something a bit less time-consuming doesn't come along, I will probably try something like what you've come up with. ..could do the trick.

Merry Christmas.!

jamez: All later versions (5.00(.002 and up) are "beta", or "pre-release". Check box at bottom left of SDC window labeled "Show pre-released versions".
